Pretty cool (no pun intended)
Louisville's public transport system, TARC, has a great new feature on its website: a calculator for tallying how much money car drivers can save each month simply by taking the bus to and from work. What the calculator does not take into account is environmental benefits, such as saving gallons of fossil fuels, reducing carbon dioxide emissions which cause global warming, having fewer cars on the road (which reduces traffic, pollution, numbers of accidents--and therefore insurance and health care costs), etc. These are all benefits additional to the direct savings in dollars.
I can save almost $600 a year by not driving my car to work. Even when it's a hybrid. Even when my commute is a mere 3.5 miles.
What can you save?
